Republicans Take the Senate, Gain Seats In House

Posted on 11/5/2014

Republicans gained full control of Congress in the midterm election, winning their first Senate majority in eight years and building on their House majority. With a net gain of 13 seats in the House, the GOP has its largest edge since 1946. Several other House and Senate races still remain too close to call.

Following an election that saw the retirement of the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, the ABA government relations team has prepared a preliminary analysis of how the 2014 election is likely to affect the banking industry. The analysis also provides the key issues for the 114th Congress, including Dodd-Frank Reform, CFPB Oversight, Regulatory Burden, Data Breach, GSE Reform and Tax Reform.
