SBA Releases Data on PPP / EIDL Programs

SBA Releases Data on PPP / EIDL Programs

Posted: Dec 02 2020
In response to a federal judge’s order, last evening SBA released borrower information on both the PPP and EIDL programs.  SBA declined to appeal a judge's order in a case brought by multiple news organizations seeking data more granular than what SBA has already disclosed.

While it is not unexpected that details of a government loan program would eventually be made public, banks can expect media attention on the PPP and EIDL data. To help bankers respond to media queries, ABA created talking points that emphasize that banks played no role in the decision to release the data. Banks should consider reviewing the data reported for their borrowers to ensure accuracy.

From SBA:
"SBA is providing information on Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL), and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Advances in an effort to keep the public informed of the assistance and actions that the agency and thousands of lenders across the country are taking at this difficult time. The publicly released PPP data is based on information submitted by the lender to SBA."
